Place of Tokugawa Yorinobu’s memories

Sitting on the side of Imoseyama, a small island in the Wakaura estuary area, Kaizen-in Tahoto was renovated by Tokugawa Yorinobu in 1653, when his mother, Yojuin died, to commemorate her. This tile-roof building is 13m tall, there sits an inscription monument on the premises of this two-storied Buddhist tower, with an explanation of how it came to be built on its back. In the stone room underneath the tower, more than 150,000 stones with “Namuami horen gekyo”, Buddhist sutra, written on them were found.
